Zan Wells

Zan Wells (sculptor, artistic consultant) has worked in watercolor, oils, pencil, charcoal, pen and ink, pottery. Since 1985, she has been making clay models and casting in bronze, working closely with foundries in each stage of the casting process, wax and the finishing techniques. Most of her work has been commissioned. She has 74 sculptures in public spaces and in private collections. She has worked with the City of Anderson on public art projects including the sculptor of William Church Whitner and The Wren Project. Her Mice project in Greenville benefits the charity Art Smart.

The Church Street public art team was fortunate to solicit and receive consultation from Zan throughout the process. She served as an advisor and wrote a letter of support for the project to the National Endowment for the Arts as the team sought grant funding. As the project progressed, she could not resist getting her hands in the clay and participating in the design of several of the clay relief elements for the storyboxes.

Zan’s work can be seen throughout South Carolina and in several other states. Beloved in Anderson, her sculptures have been foundational in the City’s success in the public art arena.
